The European Renewable Resources and Materials Association (ERRMA) together with the Bavarian White Biotechnology Network IBP and in agreement with the European Platform for Sustainable Chemis-try (SusChem) is organising an EU Workshop on 5th November 2008 to present concrete current EU in-dustry and academia involvement in innovations in the bio-based area and their contribution to the cur-rent energy and feedstock discussion.
The biorefinery concept is defined according to the “Knowledge Based Bioeconomy” projects in the 7th EU Research Framework Programme, which is directly linked to the report of the EU Commission’s Task Force for bio-based products in preparation for the Commission Communication on “Lead Markets Initiative for Europe”. To demonstrate the integrated and diversified biorefinery concept based on the SusChem’s visionary project and the proposals of the „SusChem Implementation Action Plan“ using in-dustrial biotechnology and classical chemistry, this conference aims at presenting detailed activities that are actually performed in several EU Member States.
This workshop will be opened by Dr. Angelika Niebler, Member of the European Parliament and Chairperson of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, followed by contributions of DG Re-search and DG Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission. The industry and academia in-volvement will be presented during this one day conference. Opening the reception in the evening, the Bavarian State Minister for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology, will illustrate the political aspect of the Bavarian Biotech Cluster. This reception will give us the opportunity for an informal exchange of views for future common activities.
This workshop will be hosted by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the EU in Brus-sels. It is sponsored by the newly created company BioM WB GmbH, which manages the Bavarian White Biotechnology Network IBP, and is free of fees. The attached Announcement and the Conference Pro-gramme are jointly prepared by ERRMA and BioM WB GmbH, in agreement with SusChem.
